The first Mitsubishi Evo came in GSR and RS models with a 2.0 L turbo DOHC engine. The engine was shared by Mitsubishi RVR. This model was all set to compete in the World Rally Championship with the 4G63 engine’s capacity of generating 244 hp at 6000 rpm. Towards the end of the year 1993, certain modifications were made to this model and Mitsubishi Evo II was introduced in the markets. The modifications included a stronger engine (256 hp) and other handling improvements like the wider tyres, and wheelbase adjustments.

This model was given the MR designation when soon after it was presented in the Tokyo motor show. This high performance model soon made way for some other variants in the U.K. The FQ320 and FQ 400 variants came with 325 and 400 hp engine.

The last Evo model, the Mitsubishi Evo X was launched in 2005 and was designed by Omer Halilhodzic in Europe. The turbocharged 1998 cc inline-4 GEMA engine was the major attraction for customers around the globe. The Mistubishi Evo X can reach 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and the engine is capable of generating 296 hp at 6500 rpm. This model is among the best that Mitsubishi has ever produced.
